RevPoints Expiration Rules
RevPoints operate under straightforward expiration rules, but understanding the nuances — particularly around redemption sequencing — maximizes the value you extract before points disappear.
Core Expiration Policy
Every RevPoint maintains validity for precisely 36 months from its receipt date. This policy applies consistently regardless of how you acquired the points: everyday card spending, Spare Change round-up purchases, upgrade bonuses, promotional offers, or in-app challenge completions all follow identical rules.
Revolut maintains strict expiration enforcement without exceptions. Three years after receipt, points vanish permanently from your account. The system doesn't offer extensions, grace periods, or reinstatement regardless of circumstances. Customer service cannot manually extend expiry dates or restore expired points.
Visibility and Tracking
Revolut surfaces expiration information within the RevPoints section of your mobile app, eliminating guesswork about deadline dates. The interface clearly indicates when point batches expire, with special emphasis on balances approaching the three-year threshold.
Points expiring within 90 days typically receive highlighted treatment, appearing prominently in your overview to ensure you notice time-sensitive balances requiring action. This advance warning provides sufficient time to evaluate redemption options rather than discovering expired points retroactively. For users managing substantial point balances, checking expiry dates monthly prevents surprises.
First-In, First-Out Redemption
When you convert RevPoints into airline miles, redeem them for shopping discounts, or apply them toward hotel bookings, the system automatically selects your oldest points first. This approach ensures close to expiration points get used before newer points with extended validity. You can't manually select which points to redeem — Revolut's algorithm handles prioritization, protecting your balance from unnecessary losses.
This automation removes cognitive burden. You don't need to track individual point earning dates or calculate which batches face nearest expiration. The system manages complexity behind the scenes, letting you focus on identifying valuable redemption opportunities rather than administrative point management.
Purchased vs. Earned Point Priority
Account balances containing both Spare Change points (purchased via round-ups) and earned points (from qualifying transactions) follow a modified redemption sequence.
Standard priority redeems Spare Change points before earned points. Since Spare Change represents direct cash investment — you paid £1 for every 50 points — Revolut prioritizes using these purchased points first, maximizing return on your monetary contribution.
However, the system makes one crucial exception to protect your interests: earned points expiring within 90 days jump to priority status. When your transaction-earned points face imminent expiration, Revolut redeems those first instead of your Spare Change points, preventing loss of points you earned through spending activity.
Illustration: Your account contains 3000 total points — 1500 from Spare Change (expiring in 20 months) and 1500 from card purchases (expiring in two months). Redeem 1000 points for an extra baggage during your next flight, and Revolut uses 1000 of your expiring earned points, preserving your entire Spare Change balance while protecting you from losing earned points to expiration.
Strategic Timing Considerations
The three-year expiration creates planning requirements for serious points accumulators. If you're earning 800-1,000 points monthly on Metal or Ultra plans, your earliest points begin expiring while you're still building toward large redemption targets.
Rather than hoarding points for three years targeting one massive reward, consider regular smaller redemptions. Covering flight ancillaries (baggage, seats, upgrades), partial ticket payments, or periodic shopping discounts prevents early-earned points from expiring unused while you accumulate toward distant goals.

Pro tip

Convert RevPoints to miles to save them from expiry. For example, Avios from British Airways don't expire as long as you have activity (earning or spending) every 36 months. If you have RevPoints approaching expiry, converting to Avios extends their usable life.
