Do RevPoints Expire?
Yes, RevPoints expire — but understanding the timeline and redemption mechanics helps you maximize value before points disappear.
The Basic Expiry Rule
Every RevPoint you earn carries a three-year lifespan from the moment it enters your account. Whether you accumulate points through card spending, Spare Change round-ups, upgrade bonuses, or in-app challenges, the clock starts ticking immediately upon receipt.
This isn't a rolling expiration that resets with activity. Each point maintains its individual expiry date regardless of how actively you use your Revolut account. A point earned on January 1, 2024 expires on January 1, 2027, period.
Checking Your Expiry Dates
Revolut displays expiry information directly in the app, letting you monitor which points are approaching their deadline. Navigate to your RevPoints balance section to view upcoming expirations, giving you time to plan redemptions strategically rather than discovering expired points after the fact.
The app typically highlights points expiring within 90 days, providing advance warning to convert them into airline miles, hotel discounts, or gift cards before they vanish.
How Revolut Protects Your Points
Revolut employs an intelligent redemption sequence designed to minimize point loss. When you redeem RevPoints for any purpose — airline miles, shopping discounts, hotel bookings — the system automatically uses your oldest points first.
This first-in, first-out approach ensures points closest to expiration get redeemed before newer points, protecting your balance from unnecessary losses. You don't need to manually select which points to use; the system handles prioritization automatically.
The Spare Change Exception
Points purchased through Spare Change round-ups follow slightly different rules. Generally, Revolut redeems Spare Change points before earned points, since you technically purchased these through cash contributions.
However, the system makes one critical exception: if your earned points (from card spending, bonuses, challenges) are expiring within three months, Revolut prioritizes redeeming those expiring points instead. This prevents you from losing points you earned through activity while preserving points you paid cash to acquire.
Example scenario: Your account holds 200 points — 100 from Spare Change (expiring in two years) and 100 from regular shopping (expiring in one month). When you redeem 80 points, the system uses your 80 oldest earned points first, leaving you with 20 earned points still facing imminent expiration and your full 100 Spare Change points protected for two more years.
Extending Point Lifespan
One strategic workaround exists: converting RevPoints to airline miles. Many airline loyalty programs offer more generous expiry policies than RevPoints.
British Airways Avios, for instance, remain valid indefinitely as long as you show any account activity — earning or spending miles — within 36 months. Transfer RevPoints approaching expiration to your Executive Club account, and those miles potentially gain years of additional usability beyond the original three-year RevPoints window.
This strategy works particularly well if you're already saving for a specific flight redemption. Rather than risk losing points to expiration, convert them to miles where they'll remain accessible until you've accumulated enough for your target booking.
What Happens to Expired Points
Expired RevPoints disappear permanently. Revolut doesn't offer grace periods, extensions, or reinstatement options. Once the three-year deadline passes, those points vanish from your balance without compensation. This makes monitoring expiry dates crucial, especially if you're accumulating large balances.
