How many Avios, RevPoints or Amex points do you need for London to New York?
British Airways currently shows London to New York from 27,500 Avios + £75 one way in economy, per person. At BA’s verified 1:1 transfer rate, that starts at 27,500 RevPoints or UK Amex Membership Rewards points.
This is a dated planning anchor from the official Avios map, observed 19 July 2026—not a live quote or seat-availability claim. Your date, cabin, airport, reward price and cash charges can differ. Find the reward seat first, then transfer only the shortfall.

Your BA Club plan
Enter a comparable total cash fare to calculate pence per Avios.
RevPoints can transfer to BA Avios at 1:1, from 1 point. Allow up to two working days depending on the partner.
Planner scope: British Airways Club Avios only. For Flying Blue Miles, Virgin Points or AerClub Avios, use the live price from that programme and its own transfer rules. Figures are estimates, not financial advice or an availability search.
Four practical reward-booking paths
The direct flight is not always the only option. Each row is crawlable without JavaScript; dynamic programmes deliberately have no invented starting price.
| Book with | Route | RevPoints path | Amex UK path | Price and check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| British Airways Club Direct | LHR or LGW → JFK or EWR on BA | 1:1 to Avios Min 1; max 999,999 | 1:1 to Avios Min 1,000; blocks of 500; instant* | BA economy from 27,500 Avios + £75 one way, per person. Check the map, then search live. |
| Aer Lingus AerClub Via Dublin | London → DUB → New York | 1:1 to AerClub Avios Min 1; max 999,999 | No direct AerClub transfer listed | Published route-zone chart; connections can price by segment. Check the chart and search live. |
| Flying Blue Via Paris/Amsterdam | London → CDG or AMS → New York | 1:1 to Flying Blue Miles Min 1; max 999,999 | 1:1 to Flying Blue Miles Min 500; blocks of 250; 4 working days | Dynamic reward pricing; taxes and surcharges extra. Search Flying Blue. |
| Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Direct | LHR → JFK on Virgin Atlantic | No path in Revolut’s public UK list | 1:1 to Virgin Points Min 1,000; blocks of 500; instant† | Demand-based reward pricing; taxes, fees and charges extra. Search Virgin. |
* A newly enrolled BA partner account can add up to three working days. † Amex says Virgin is normally instant but to allow up to 48 hours. Transfer details verified 19 July 2026; confirm the current screen before sending points.
RevPoints or Amex: which balance should you use?
For BA and Flying Blue, both ecosystems transfer at 1:1. The difference is the available programme, transfer block and timing—not a different label-free “points” total.
Use RevPoints when
- You are booking BA, AerClub or Flying Blue and need an exact small top-up: Revolut publishes a 1-point minimum and 999,999 maximum.
- Your own loyalty-account name and name order match Revolut.
- You have already found the seat and can tolerate up to two working days for posting, depending on the partner.
Use Amex Membership Rewards when
- You want the Amex-only direct Virgin path. Virgin is not in Revolut’s public UK airline list.
- You can meet the partner minimum and increment: BA 1,000/500, Flying Blue 500/250, Virgin 1,000/500.
- The published transfer timing fits the seat you found. New BA enrolments can take longer, and Flying Blue lists four working days.
Do not speculatively transfer. Check the same itinerary in each programme, note its own currency and GBP charges, compare value, then move only the required shortfall. RevPoints airline transfers are final, and loyalty currencies are not interchangeable after transfer.
Using a BA Amex Companion Voucher
What the voucher can change
On an eligible reward booking, a companion can travel for no additional Avios, or a solo traveller can receive a 50% Avios reduction. The free BA Amex Companion Voucher is economy-only; the Premium Plus voucher can be used in any cabin.
What it does not remove
Taxes, fees and carrier charges remain due for every passenger. An eligible Aer Lingus itinerary must be booked through British Airways Club channels; do not assume an AerClub-channel booking can apply the voucher.
Why the calculator does not halve anything: cabin, voucher type, passenger mix and the live BA result matter. Apply the voucher in BA’s booking flow, copy the total Avios shown, then use the calculator’s voucher branch. That preserves the airline’s actual arithmetic.
How to book London to New York with points
Use this sequence to reduce the risk of moving points into a programme that cannot book your preferred trip.
Choose the exact itinerary
Fix passengers, one-way or return, cabin, travel dates and acceptable London and New York airports before comparing programmes.
Search reward seats before transferring
Search BA Club and any viable alternative. Record the live award currency, price and GBP charges for every passenger and direction; a published “from” price is not availability.
Compare with the equivalent cash fare
Use the same itinerary, cabin and baggage. Enter the total cash fare and reward charges in the planner to calculate the value per Avios.
Confirm the transfer path
Check the live partner, ratio, minimum, increment and timing. Confirm the receiving loyalty account is yours and its name and name order match.
Transfer the shortfall and book
Recheck the seat, move only the required amount, then complete the reward booking as soon as the points arrive. Transfers are generally final.
BA timing, not a seat promise: British Airways says reward bookings can be made up to 355 days before departure. BA also publishes minimum reward-seat releases on its own Heathrow and Gatwick flights, but neither rule guarantees your route, date, cabin or preferred airport will be available.
London to New York points FAQs
How many RevPoints do I need from London to New York?
British Airways’ official Avios map showed London airports to JFK or Newark from 27,500 Avios + £75 one way in economy, per person, when checked on 19 July 2026. Because BA publishes a 1:1 RevPoints transfer rate, that starts at 27,500 RevPoints. It is a planning anchor, not a live quote or availability claim.
Can RevPoints transfer directly to British Airways Avios?
Yes. British Airways publishes 1 RevPoint = 1 Avios. Revolut’s UK guidance lists a minimum of 1 and maximum of 999,999 RevPoints per airline transfer, says posting can take up to two working days depending on the partner, and treats transfers as final.
Are Amex points or RevPoints better for London to New York?
For BA and Flying Blue, both currently transfer at 1:1, so compare your balance, transfer blocks and timing. RevPoints also transfer directly to AerClub; Amex does not list a direct AerClub transfer. Amex transfers directly to Virgin at 1:1, while Virgin is absent from Revolut’s public UK airline list.
Can I use a BA Amex Companion Voucher to New York?
Yes, on eligible British Airways, Iberia or Aer Lingus reward flights booked through British Airways Club channels, subject to voucher rules and reward-seat availability. The free BA Amex voucher is economy-only; the Premium Plus voucher can be used in any cabin. Taxes, fees and carrier charges remain payable per passenger.
Should I transfer points before finding a reward seat?
No. Search for the exact reward, record the live points price and cash charges, confirm the transfer ratio and account details, then transfer only the shortfall. Availability can change and airline-point transfers are generally final.
Is BA or Virgin better for a New York points flight?
There is no universal winner. Both RevPoints and UK Amex can transfer to BA Avios at 1:1, while only UK Amex has the direct 1:1 Virgin Flying Club path in this comparison. Virgin pricing is dynamic, so compare each programme’s live points and cash quote for the same dates before transferring.
How far ahead can I search for BA reward flights to New York?
British Airways permits reward bookings up to 355 days before departure, but that does not guarantee a seat for a specific flight, date or cabin. Search both JFK and Newark, and recheck availability before transferring.
Is JFK or Newark cheaper in Avios?
The official map showed both JFK and Newark from the same 27,500 Avios + £75 one-way economy anchor on 19 July 2026, but that does not mean every date costs the same. Search both airports because schedules, live reward prices, availability, cash charges and ground-transport costs can differ.
